At a recent meeting of our board of directors, we reflected on some of the students and families we’ve helped over the years. Rhea Simmons doing a degree in Environmental Studies, Kadeem Hazell completing a degree in aeronautical engineering, Kaymarie Daniel is pursuing a degree in fashion design.
All those students, and indeed hundreds of others, have benefitted from the programs run out of the Learning Centre. They attended after school programs there, and received scholarships to help them attend secondary schools on St. Vincent. Last month we announced nearly four dozen recipients of support for this academic year. But the programs are important beyond even the participants. They contribute to academics, but they also promote an academic and active life. That’s why we’ve also supported the junior sailing academy, and programs at the Hub. They all communicate the same thing: you can do this. You can learn, and grow, and work with others. The camps at United Fitness are the latest project of ours and one were exceptionally proud to be associated with and to help make a reality.
With the education programs, the health programs, the food initiatives—many of which have been operating for decades—we know that that these are important. They have helped many families, and will help many more. But they are only as strong as the people, like you, who support them. Especially as we come into the fall, with the holiday season not so far off, we ask that you consider supporting the Grenadines Initiatives and its programs.
